Privacy policy
Here you can read which data REELPARTY stores, why, and how you stay in control of it.
Settings and data download in the game
Who is responsible?
The operator of REELPARTY (reelparty.gg) is: [add operator name and address]. For privacy questions, you can reach us at [add email address].
The short version
- You can play as a guest. We store nothing about you then.
- There are no ads and no trackers. Statistics run on our own server only, with no third-party services.
- With an account, you can switch off usage statistics, download your data and delete your account at any time.
- REELPARTY sets no cookies itself.
Account
An account is optional. If you create one, we store:
- your username, your display name, your look and your bio;
- your password – never in plain text, only as an irreversible hash;
- when you registered and last logged in, and on which days you were around;
- your game progress: achievements, badges, statistics, friends, catches, shells and pearls, gear, pet, settings and guestbook entries.
We do not ask for an email address, phone number or real name. To keep you logged in, your browser stores a login token (valid for 60 days); only a hash of it is kept on the server. The purpose is to offer you the game with a saved progress (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Guests
As a guest, you give us no data. Name and look stay in your browser only. Your catches only count for the session and are gone afterwards.
Chat and reports
- Other players can see chat messages (lobby, Island Radio). The history – the last 50 messages per room or island – only lives in the server’s memory and is gone after a restart.
- Insults and links are hidden in chat automatically, and inappropriate names and guestbook texts are turned down. This happens automatically, without anything being stored.
- If someone reports you or a message, we store the report with the affected text and the chat history before it. The team sees it to enforce the rules (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The same applies to actions such as muting or banning, and to the log of team actions.
- For guests, we don’t store an IP address for this, only a salted short value (hash), so a ban can take effect.
Notes in your browser
REELPARTY uses your browser’s storage (localStorage and sessionStorage), not cookies. It holds:
- the login token so you stay logged in, plus name and look;
- your language, sound settings and display settings;
- “already seen” notes, for example for news and hints, and your recently read guides;
- in sessionStorage, a random visit ID and your current lobby session. Both end with the tab.
These notes are needed for the game to work. You can delete them at any time in your browser settings.
Statistics: how is REELPARTY used?
To improve REELPARTY, we measure how the game is used. This happens on our own server only; we send nothing to third-party services (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- What we count: for example page loaded, island or board game entered, first cast, first sale, minigames started, finished or aborted, opened windows such as news and guides, and search terms without results in the guides. Plus active minutes per activity. When the page loads, your browser only reports whether it already knows a name or an account – so we don’t count new visitors twice.
- Technical data: browser error messages (addresses in them are cut down to the path), frame rate, number of draw calls, device type (touch or computer), rough screen size, graphics tier and load time.
- What we don’t record: the name of your graphics card or other traits that make your device recognizable. Your IP address doesn’t end up in the statistics either.
- Guests are only counted per visit, using the random visit ID. It is deleted with the tab – we don’t recognize guests.
- Accounts: events are linked to your account so we can, for example, count how many players come back after a week. In the evaluation we mainly see totals and shares.
- Team accounts and bots don’t count.
With an account, you switch statistics off under “Privacy & data” in the menu with the “Usage statistics” switch. After that, we store no more behavior events for your account, and its existing raw events are deleted.
Earnings statistics and ledger
Every booking of shells and pearls is recorded with time, amount and reason in your account’s ledger. Daily values per activity (income, spending, active minutes) are derived from it. This is part of running the game: we use it to balance the economy and spot cheating. Only the team can see it, and it can’t be switched off – without the ledger there would be no saved progress. The “Anonymous statistics” switch only affects behavior events.
Fonts
The game page loads the fonts Fredoka and Nunito from Google Fonts (Google Ireland Limited). Google technically receives your IP address in the process. [Operator: check whether the fonts can be self-hosted instead – this section would then be removed.]
Server logs
The server writes technical messages (start, errors) to a log. We don’t store your IP address in the database; we only use it briefly in memory to limit abuse, such as too many login attempts. Our host [add host name] may technically store connection data such as IP address, time and requested address in access logs. [Add retention period]
How long do we keep data?
| Data | Duration |
|---|---|
| Account and progress | until you delete your account |
| Ledger and daily values per player | in full, as long as the account exists |
| Raw statistics events | 30 days, then only daily totals |
| Performance reports | 30 days, then only daily totals |
| Login days | 13 months, then only counted in aggregate |
| Chat history | in memory only, until restart |
| Reports and team log | [set retention period] |
Your rights
- Access: under “Privacy & data” in the menu you download a copy of your data as a file (“Download my data”, once a day).
- Deletion: in your own profile under “Edit” → “Security” → “Delete account”. This removes your account along with progress, friends, achievements, catches and statistics events. Reports and the team log remain as far as we need them to prevent abuse.
- Correction: you change your display name, bio and look any time in your profile.
- Objection: you switch off usage statistics yourself (see above).
- Complaint: you can complain to a data protection authority.
Changes
