Casting and reeling

Cast, wait for the bite, reel it in: this is how you catch your first fish and your hundredth.

1. Cast

  • First take the rod in hand: F on a computer, the rod button on a phone. While walking, it stays on your back.
  • Hold Space or the mouse button (on a phone, the big 🎣 button). The power bar swings back and forth.
  • Release in the golden zone: that’s a perfect cast – fish bite faster.
  • The harder you cast, the farther the bait flies. At the pier, only a long cast reaches the deep water.

If no water is in range, you’ll see “Move closer to the water”.

2. Wait and strike

  • The bobber sometimes twitches first. Do not strike then, or you’ll scare the fish away.
  • When the big “!” appears, press right away. You have about a second.
  • Your reaction time is measured in your browser – a bad ping costs you nothing.

3. Reeling in

  • Keep the golden hook inside the green zone until the top bar is full.
  • Holding pulls the hook to the right, letting go lets it sink to the left.
  • Sprints and jumps by the fish are announced just before.
  • If the hook rests against the wall, you catch nothing.

Line tension

  • The tube left of the bar shows the pull on the line. Holding raises it, letting go lowers it.
  • Yellow is a warning; at red the line can snap. Let go then.
  • After 30 to 40 seconds the line gets tired. Taking too long risks a snap.
  • If the line snaps, the fish is gone. Just cast again.

The catch

The catch card shows fish, weight and XP. New species carry a “NEW!”. All catches of a session collect in the net on the right – one click opens the Fishdex.
